Day 1 - Hill End

Today, after 5 hours in the car, not including a rest stop in Blackheath, we arrived in Hill End. Hill End is a picturesque village in outback NSW. Lots of rusty corrugated-iron roofs, rusty metal structures (tractors, fuel pumps, etc.), old chimneys and sagging wood fences make this village truly a photographers heaven.

Proof of that statement

First, we drove to the Village Campground, only to find it jam-packed with visitors to the End Festival. Upon questioning a camper there, we found there were two other options: the Sports Oval, where temporary camp sites had been opened, or the Glendora Campground, a beautiful, nature-surrounded campground about 1 km out of town. Then, arriving at Glendora, we chose a site, only to find a nest of ants right in the middle of the site. We hopped in the car to have a look to see if we could find a better site. This took us out of Glendora and into Hill End.
Having found a  spot that seemed better on the Sports Oval, we returned to Glendora. But, when we wanted to buckle up the trailer, we saw that Mum had left the pin, the coil and the bracket used to attach the trailer on the tow bar, where, during the drive, both the the pin and the coil had rolled off. This meant that we could not move the trailer, and, for the time being, were stuck.
So we set up camp at Glendora, and set off to see if we could find the pin, which was the most important part. But we found nothing and decided that we would simply stay and see if the pin – and the coil – would turn up.
That night, we walked to Hill End, where the "Beginning of the End" was supposed to be happening. Unfortunately, the Beginning of the End was only a small band performing in a pub. The real event was to start tomorrow.
As we were walking back though, Mum happened to find the pin that we were looking for. Dad later said he would rather have made Mum buy a Lotto ticket because the chances were almost better than finding the pin.
